There’s so much new stuff in this Sprint, just crazy. The option to activate new Identity Styles, the Share Buttons received a brand new UI, the option to apply the new Grey Color to Headlines and Body Text and a variety of bug fixes. And my favorite band released a new song, too. It’s been a good one!

PLANET-7087 – Retire old Blocks report and move the new one out of Beta

  • Graduation time for the Blocks and Patterns in Planet 4! They were marked as “Beta” for quite some time now, but we’ve all been enjoying them a lot lately so it’s time to remove the beta name and clean up some code around them.

PLANET-7020 – A feature toggle to activate the new identity styles

  • There’s a lot of color changes happening (see more here: PLANET-6945). To make sure there are no blocking factors for merging the changes, it’s best to release them together as we go forward. To do that, a feature toggle has been created to conditionally load the CSS changes.
    • This is to help the NRO’s who have child theme customizations, to allow everyone to take the time to adjust their code by activating the feature flag in their own dev-sites.
  • Activation: Dashboard > Appearance > Customization > Site Identity

PLANET-7012 – Remove jQuery library from main theme

  • Bye bye jQuery dependency! However, WP’s version of the library stays around, to give time for child theme developers to align.

PLANET-6989 – Apply the new UI for the share buttons

PLANET-6984 – Apply the new grey color to headings + body text 🔑

  • The new grey colors from the visual identity have been applied to the Headings and Body Text, for all P4 sites.
    • The current dark grey is now this new grey: #1C1C1C
  • 🔑 This is not enabled by default. This has been released with an admin option (feature flag) to opt-in.

PLANET-6977 – Disable option for WPML footer language switcher

  • In WPML there is a setting to show a language switcher in the footer or not. At this moment, it kinda looks ugly, so it has been disabled to avoid confusion.

PLANET-7094 – Broken hover animation for rounded images in Safari

  • And that has been fixed! Hover animations for ever!!

PLANET-7013 – Rounded images are distorted in certain viewports

  • And now they’re no longer distorted!
