Currently, the carousel header on desktop uses the full image as uploaded. The upload limit is somewhere around 50MB and if editors upload images that large, it will be shown in the slider.
The suggestion is to either limit image size for use in the carousel to < 1MB (or even less) or use automatically converted images,
