July is a relatively “quite” period for P4, the project team uses this period to go on holiday, catch up with technical debt (bug fixes), plan the next semester and do some testing. Our blocks are also being improved, starting with the Articles and Submenu ones, now more user-friendly then ever.
Release v1.24 (31/07/2018)
- PLANET-2450 – GTM: Investigate why script not loading when ‘Enforce Cookies’ is enabled
- The Cookies control block and the Google Tag Manager (GTM) container did not get along super well, we fixed it, and now they both load on P4 sites were the cookies block is enforced.
- PLANET-2398 – Posts: Photo caption pulled as excerpt
- If a post started with a photo, the image description was pulled as the excerpt. Not anymore!
- PLANET-2429 – GPI Media Library: add credit to alt field
- In images pulled out from the Media Library, photographer credit were not appearing on the ALT field. They do now!
- PLANET-2490 – Breadcrumb: design broken
- Probably the release’s most noticeable improvement, from a front-end perspective. The dot separating Post types – Categories – Tags is back! More on Taxonomy: Categories and& Tags
- PLANET-2426 – Covers block: should use smaller image size
- The Take Action covers block was using way too big images as background, we had to chose a more appropriate size
Release v1.25 (15/08/2018)
We are reworking the blocks to make them way more functional and suitable to the different needs, and we started with the Articles Block.
- PLANET-2412 – Articles block: Add override | PLANET-2510 – Articles block: Add description
- Webbies have now way more control over the Articles Block, being able to choose which Post Types to display (Stories, PR or Publication, or any combination of those), change the “Read More” button text and link, determine #Tags other than the one/s of the page andadd a block Description. Categories can also be ignored, allowing even more customized filtering.
A manual override is also available, allowing to chose which posts to be displayed, regardless of their publication date, by which posts are usually sorted.

- PLANET-2080 – Pages: Back to top functionality added to “Submenu” block
- The “Submenu” block has been improved, now providing a “Back to top” arrow in pages that contains the block.
- PLANET-2457 – Consistency: clean up
- We took the P4 machine to a full health check, reviewing and cleaning up all markup and css.
- PLANET-2520 – Strings for screen readers not translatable
- Visually impaired people use screen readers to navigate through the site. This program reads commands in the code, and those commands were in English. We made them translatable, by adding 5 strings to the LOCO plugin we use to translate the Planet 4 theme. Thanks to this feature request from our Brazilian colleagues, accessibility of P4 sites were improved! These are the new fields:

- IE 11 and Microsoft Edge (yes, people are still using them) were not liking a few P4 things, making social sharing buttons of our Footer, Happy point and Comments look weird. They look great now on Microsoft’s browsers..
- PLANET-2438 – Search: Tighten spacing
- Spacing looked weird in Search results, now it’s been aligned to the Articles block spacing..
- PLANET-2453 – Campaign Thumbnail: font | PLANET-2454 – Static Four Column: font | PLANET-2527 – Tasks Block: font
- For some reasons some of our blocks and hard-coded texts got their fonts changed to Lora. It’s all back to Roboto now..
- PLANET-2471 – Default template: image alignment
- We made image alignment more awesome than ever, adjusting text alignment and spacing..
- PLANET-2473 – GPEU: Change donate button string to ‘Contact Us’
- The Greenpeace European Union office (the next in line for P4 launch!) does not fundraise, therefore they requested to have the “Donate” button (Hardcoded) changed to “Contact Us”. Done.
- PLANET-2528 – Tasks Block: fix colour on Mobile
- The Take Action Tasks block was black ojn mobile versions, it has now been aligned to our awesome colour palette.
- PLANET-2538 – Standard updates: WordPress to 4.9.8 and Wordfence to 7.1.10, stateless to 2.17
- Core updates to a few of the primary tools we use, and to WordPress
