A way to show you like a blog post without commenting; Likes. Or like on Medium with “Claps”. To visually show how many people like an entry, without having to drop a comment (our office for example has comments turned off) and/or leave their data.

💡 Idea meeting outcomes – March 2021 – It’s a No-GO 🛑

RECAP from Community feedback: Interesting, but received the less enthusiasm among the 3 ideas in March 2021.

The value add would be to boost engagement and community building with posts (now only Share / comment / related posts are available) and to assess the appetite / interactions.  The feature may be developed with the intention to trigger a set of behaviours (e.g. subsequent CtA based on scoring? IF 😕 ask for feedback, if 😍 ask for share?*) or allow another way of ordering articles (= most popular / liked scoring)?

Generic agreement to not link the tool to any login but have it as a stand-alone feature, available based on command from the editor.

*this could also be done in OptiMonk.

PROs CONs
  • Clear use case
  • Stimulates creativity for posts’ engagement (e.g. a rainbow dove? A boat?)
  • Add new metrics to improve content quality
  • Not a “must have” by anyone who joined the call.
  • May add complexity and maintenance issues
  • Considering some political situations, a “Clap / like” may not represent the proper sentiment
P4 tech team gut-feeling recommendation → This requires more complexity that the 2 other posts improvements. Without a clear idea on how we would go about implementing these, an eventual first 2 levels of implementation (#1 – clapping/liking a post, #2 – popularity) are both feasible. However, connecting the clap / like with the Articles block or even the Search page (“most popular” sorting) would significantly increase the amount of work.

A 3rd level (contextual CTAs) requires more discussion to better understand the specs and the user flow.

Notes: Would like to connect this with the intention to move “Share” buttons (exploring 3 new designs for this) + concerns about little NROs (kinda sad not to have any reactions or just 1) + insist on the option to disable it.

An interesting option could be to show the actual “share counts” next to share buttons, doesn’t really think it should be a priority to get confirmation but understand the level of popularity among the available content. Liking or Clapping smth does not really trigger anything. More interesting a consequential CTA (like this? Yes / No and propose CTA)

Need to be mindful of not cluttering sites – ‘do you like this’? → ask to share (makes more sense than ask to donate), would be good to see data. Could be good learning point (digi-comms people could see interest beyond google analytics), might be better to focus on share buttons. Need to be mindful of clutter – take action box, popups.
