Hello there! It’s time for a busy SPRINT release; two new WordPress native Blocks (Details Block and Footnotes), updates to Posts List Block, Tags in dropdowns, protecting from hackers, … It’s a big one. Let’s go:

PLANET-7820 Reflected Cross-Site Scripting

In short: measures were taken to avoid code injection. This means that now you cannot inject malicious code (or any kind of code) using the search field or the comments form. Protecting Planet 4.

PLANET-7823 Enable WordPress builtin Details block

Say hello to the WordPress native Block: Details Block. It will give editors the possibility to add a collapsable element that can hold: columns, images, social media embeds, buttons, etc; inside of it, like the Accordion Block (which will eventually be phased out).

It has been enabled in its original form, with an addition of the design of the P4 accordion.

PLANET-7829 Enable WordPress builtin Footnotes block

And another addition: The WordPress native Footnotes block is here! Enabled and fully supported, to allow footnotes on all Posts and Pages.

PLANET-7855 Posts List Block: Manual Override should sort chronologically

When Posts are manually added using the “Manual Override” option in the Posts List Block, they used to appear on the front-end in the order they were added — not in chronological order by Post date. This has been fixed, and now the Posts are in chronological order (based on Post date).

PLANET-7863 News and Stories: Add a dropdown for tags

The possibility to filter through Category and Post Types is nothing new. The option to filter through Tags, however, is brand new! The Tags dropdown has been added to News & Stories, giving users the possibility to filter through.

PLANET-7861 Tag description field not visible on Mobile on Tag Listing Page

The Description field under the tag was not visible on Mobile and smaller screens. This has been updated to show taxonomy descriptions on all screen sizes.

PLANET-7857 Posts List: adjust See all posts link based on taxonomy filters

By default, the “See all posts” link goes to the designated “News & Stories” page. However, it completely ignores the taxonomy filters of the Block.

The link is editable, so P4 editors can edit it but it would of course be simpler if it automatically links to a filtered version of the “News & Stories” page, based on the choices already made for that block in the taxonomy filters. So that’s exactly what happened and is now the case on all Planet 4 websites.

PLANET-7719 Gallery block Carousel style: screen reader should announce image alt text

In the Gallery block, the screen reader didn’t read out the alt text for the images. That has been updated so each image has the provided context to users with visual impairments.
