Bonjour! It’s my birthday today, so here’s my gift to you! (To be fair, I am but a messenger of all the great work the P4 Devs do but today, I am taking all of the credit). Anyway: A good Sprint it has been indeed, as data attributes have been added to the Preferred News Source button, YouTube videos can now be added to the Timeline Block and the footer gives some much needed context on countries. And of course, a couple of bug fixes, too. Let’s get into it!

PLANET-8301 Add data attributes to Preferred News Source button
In order to track engagement in GA4/Mixpanel on the new Google News Preferred Source button, the standard data attributes have been added. This structure is similar to other buttons.
PLANET-8255 Timeline Block: add support for YouTube videos
YES! Editors can now use YouTube Videos in the Timeline Block, by adding a link. (Short form URL’s work, too.)
PLANET-8243 Footer accessibility: Give more context to the language selection links
Language selection links were announced with unclear link names. They did not give the context of the country, leading to confusion.
So, to resolve this: Appropriate HTML lang attributes (for example: lang="es", lang="fr") have been added to all individual language selection links, so screen readers pronounce the text correctly. Additionally, visually hidden and screen reader-only text has been implemented, to provide the associated country context (for example: a link visually displaying “English” should be announced as “English, Canada, link”).
