Design and UX Improvements 🎩

  • PLANET-3267 – Add Google Metadata on Planet4 websites
    • While investigating the issue for search results of non USA sites including “Greenpeace USA”, one of the suggestions was to make sure that Planet4 websites include the stuctured metadata that Google is looking for. This might not solve the initial challenge, but we believe that as long as the metadata is present, Google should be able to better populate their Knowledge Panels and learn a bit more about the correct name and data for our sites. Let us know if it happens to see any changes in the search results.
  • PLANET-3265 – Optimize search page loading time (including the Filter counters feature)
    • Further optimization have been made to the search page performance – and without removing the Filter counters feature. That means that the loading time has improved considerably, from 19 to less than 1 second. Wishing you happy and super fast searching!
  • PLANET-3271 – Check character truncation caused by the button width difference between the two homepage carousel styles
    • The Zoom and slide to gray carousel style has wider buttons than the Full width classic style so allows for more characters than the new carousel buttons. The buttons for both styles are now adaptive with a minimum width. See an example oh how the same CTA looks when used with the different styles.

Bug Fixes 🐛

  • PLANET-3297 – EN Form block: move fields introductory text to the right place
    • The text to add context to the fields selection in the EN Form block was in the wrong place. Moved a little lower now, before the actual fields users need to select.
  • PLANET-3292 – Image and text alignment on column block M & S templates
    • Image and text alignment on column block on medium and small sizes screens should match the button width. All fixed now.
  • PLANET-3268 – Clearing cache automatically after page/post publication
    • Our investigation (before the current fix) showed that emptying the cache works for these cases:
      • edit homepage, update slider type > check in different browser, not loggged in > see changes
      • edit post title > check diff browser > see changes on the homepage and on the post
      • edit post content > homepage cache not affected (good) > check post in diff browser > see changes

        It’s not working on this case

      • edit homepage, update slider type > check in different browser, not logged in > no change
    • Further investigation showed that there was a bug in the combination of ngix-helper, our usage of Akamai (which does not return the correct headers telling the website which is its url) and the way that cache was being emptied. We introduced a forked version of ngix-helper at https://github.com/greenpeace/planet4-nginx-helper where we have made a modification that showed to work. We are introducing that one instead of the original plugin. Please give us feedback if this solves the issues with caching you have. We will continue monitoring the situation.
